Personally, I've always wanted a candidate to show up on my front lawn, in a trench coat, holding a boom box over their head that was playing "In Your Eyes" - but that's just me.

Mention you are in the same field and ask for a brief call first ...wouldn't lead with "I want to work for you". Seems stalker-esq
Honestly, they might the approach pretty admirable...if you don't come off sounding desperate.
"Hi (name), my name is (your name), I'm a ______ consultant and have been in the field for ______ years.
The reason I'm writing is that I am very interested in the work that you and your team are doing, and I want to ask if you would be open to a discussion about it?
Thank you very much and I look forward to hearing back from you soon.
OP"

Works sometimes. Compelling email is must. And don't ask for job immediately. Plus if you gave some inside information about the target practice it will help build connection in that email.
I wouldn't mind that email at any point. Explain why and be direct. Think it's okay to do that. However, it would be funny if your partner and the other partner are whiskey buddies:) <Happened to an associate who worked with me.. Kid goes off and talks to a guy about his interest and the guy turns out to be a good friend of mine..Even then he is now happily working for my friend>
Like kpmg1 said, compelling message is a must. If you can't grab his attention, he'll figure you're not worth his time anyway
Didn't realize partners have started accessing this posts 😕
Appreciate it. Is it legit to request a call about the industry to ask them "how they see it" or what their stance looks like? Seems a bit intrusive. What's the right framing for that first conversation?
