I want to lateral from the boutique firm I am currently at to big law. Went to a T-20, but never did a summer associate role at a law firm due to personal circumstances as a 2L. I’m currently having to bill 2K hours so an upside is that I’ve been able to do a lot of things as an A1. Is making this jump unrealistic? I’ve received some advice to network and cold email partners/ recruiters at these firms, but how could I stand out in a sea of messages?

Definitely realistic, experience matters a lot. After your first job no one really cares about what school you went to or who you did/did not summer for.

There are some firms that will really only look to biglaw laterals as you get into the more “prestigious” firms.

But it’s not at all uncommon recently for attorneys to lateral into biglaw at the mid/senior level. It’s basically how they fill out their mid/senior level ranks with a larger percentage of junior attorneys heading in-house or to other non-biglaw jobs.

At the junior level, it can be harder, though not unheard of.

Watch for lateral partner moves. When a partner moves between biglaw firms, it’s often to startup or grow a particular practice group in a particular office. They may not be able to convince all of their associates to come over with them, and may want to grow the group beyond those they can bring. It can be a great opportunity to reach out and see if they’re looking for people.

Really helpful insight, thanks!

Why not use a recruiter that already has relationships with decision makers? You should DM me.

I have a question, I got a contract role through a recruiter. Initially the recruiter offered the hourly pay rate which was the minimum in my range. Now I got an offer from the company. Now without me asking her she increased the hourly wage to the maximum range I asked. Which makes me doubt if the company increased it or she knew the rate all along but gave me the lower rate ?

Hi all!
Would love some insight on how you went from an HR assistant/coordinator to an HR Generalist. I’ve been in the HR world for 8 years, and only in the last 2-3 have I really done real HR work. The first company I was at didn’t have a solid HR team so I don’t really count that. I feel like I’m ready to take on more responsibility and learn more. And of course make more money.

I have looked into getting SHRM certification. But should I go back to school and get my masters in Hr?

Hello! Looking for some guidance. I will soon be leaving Verizon after 15 years with them (6 years HR experience, 3 years Operations, 6 years leadership). The last HR position I held will be eliminated and I was offered a severance. I am now in the market for a new place of employment I can call home. I was thinking of trying for a start up. But the likes of Google, Adobe, etc. also seem appealing. Would you recommend a start up as my next endeavor? I enjoy helping build processes and policies.

I've been interviewing with some companies, and now I have to decide between JPMorgan Chase and Globant.

Globant is more innovative, and has remote work. I will enter to work with a Sillicon Valley startup based in San Francisco. The tech stack is React, Nextjs, AWS, and a serverless architecture.

JPM is semi remote, and less innovative. The tech stack Java, SpringBoot and AWS. But I'd do more migration tasks, like dockerize projects and pass them to kubernetes. What would you choose?

I am applying now to remote jobs in the U.S. but would love to connect with companies operating in the region.

What is considered a “large” caseload in employment litigation? I work at a large L&E boutique law firm and handling about 14-15 active litigation cases in state/federal court or arbitration. Some of these matters are multi-plaintiff and multi-defendant cases, but none are class actions. This does not include any matters I am handling in the charge stage or in pre-litigation. Not sure if that’s a typical caseload or not?
