First as a rule yes absolutely take lateral hires. That said you'll need a track record of above average performance at ur current. Make an impact that can be put in resume and referenced if possiblle
Making the lateral move first two years out of college is difficult. Think you're better bet is hitting up a top mba program and transitioning there. A lot of training at the entry level is involved.
Second you'll need to network with consultants at the firm you'll be applying to. This can make it a lot easier to get past an interview and be considered seriously
Think they mean when someone emails you saying you killed it... I have a email folder for those
Really?
That's a lot more common in that case. Re:BCG I think his rec on getting to know current associates is spot on. Hiring loves referrals. Also the office loc you're applying to makes a difference
Thanks. How is an impact referenced by a firm? Does the firm require professional references who are called during the interview process?
Any recommendations/thoughts much appreciated !
What if you are already at MBA level?
Gotcha - I guess that begs the question - even if you know someone within the company - how do you recommend they approach you asking for a reference?
@bain - which office locations would you say are more open to this vs. less?
If u have a friend at the firm it can start by going out when theyre all drinking with other associates. Seen this. Bottom line is they need to believe youre a star so they look good passing ur resume
Why do you want to switch? Tired of healthcare/pharma?
Not really, it's more of a brand thing and better exit opportunities
Could I ask what level of tenure you're at? and by exit opportunities do you mean MBA or whatever job you are aiming for post-consulting?
If you are top 3 - you have better leadership opportunities at a variety of companies plus there is more respect for sure. For MBA- not much difference - I have several friends at HBS. Level - AC
What level are you?
