I grew up in a nuclear family away from extended relatives who were never really close. Parents were either emotionally unavailable or distant. All I've wanted for myself was a big loving family to call my own.. my parents are unaccepting of my sexuality & my partners family is also quite fucked up so she's isn't super close to them either. My family mistreated me when I was younger, and now that I don’t live at home, they don’t call or bother to look for me, because frankly, I think they have a hard time admitting what happened - and will never apologize to me either. I feel like a failure as a parent at times - my youngest daughter is extremely anxious about middle school and in the first week has already had two emotional breakdowns. She is so worried about people picking on her and not having friends. I have reached out to the counselor and principal with hopes to get her some support in school, but I can’t do anything to make it better.
