Don’t proceed imo. There will be other roles. Unless you really hate D and want to peace out OR you rather risk the paycut with the hope of a internal transfer down the road.
Guys, the recruiters could care less if you’re a top performer 2 years in a row. They just need someone to fill the role. I was top rated at my firm all throughout my Big 4 career and got early promoted.
I would do this in your situation:
1) Ask a clarifying question to see if this role is E5/IC5/L5 (or whatever leveling system this FAANG uses), go to levels.fyi and understand the range. If they are giving you a L4/L5/L6 role, then you know roughly how high you can negotiate.
2) Prep, but go through with the interview and treat it seriously, but also sort of like practice.
3) Go get another interview going with another FAANG. When you get the recruiter screen stage, tell them you are in the final round interviews with another FAANG so they can expedite your loop.
4) Get both offers and negotiate the offers against each other.
5) FAANG won’t just arbitrarily give you a higher comp than what was quoted in the initial screen just because you finish the final rounds. You might be able to squeeze a little more if you say at the end, “based on the interviews I’ve had and the roles and responsibilities this position entails, I would feel more comfortable if you can get closer to mid 2’s.” However you frame it, that’s really just an incremental increase and you would really need competing offers to negotiate.
Source: Sr Program Manager role at FAANG with 164k base, 350k stock / 4 years, 30k bonus as my original offer. I used my competing offers and got 15% more base, 50% more stock, and an additional sign on, plus same annual bonus. My TC is now high 3’s as opposed to high 2’s because I had a competing offer, negotiated hard (while treating the recruiter with respect), and stuck to my guns. I knew my worth (10 YoE) and stood by it.
Good luck!
Damn. That’s insane. What level were you at a B4?
I’d be happy to settle for your original offer. The offer they are giving me is a non starter.
I was told the exact same for a Senior Program Manager role at a FAANG. And from what I know that’s their standard response. I completed my virtual loop interviews yesterday. I think you should go ahead with the process and negotiate after you get the offer. There is always room for negotiation.
Will do. Thanks again for your help! Hope you get the job!
That sounds super low for a sr program manager role
What was the breakdown of base, bonus and equity?
And stating a high number was not a noob move. You could have just saved yourself and others hours of time. Plus, you're in a good position to say "I'll lower my threshold for a great opportunity" or ask for better paid opportunities.
She didn’t give me a breakdown. Just told me 160k to 170k is what they will pay in total.
I dont think stating your actual comp expectations is a noob thing to do!
Take the interview as an exercise. If they really like you, they will most likely give you what you desire! If not, you have nothing to lose- life continue and you get to experience the interview process at FAANG! Best of luck!
Seems like that’s the end of the road right?
Don’t want to hijack your thread here but this is exactly where I am too and also yes, waiting for a pay adjustment this June. So, I’m going to continue and go thru the interview process. If I get the role, I’ll probably play the total comp as a bargaining chip with big D. Being a top performer for several years in row, I hope that gives me an edge.
Ugh! I know it sucks to be disappointed with the total comp. For now, just think of it as a couple of hours of practice over the next few weeks so you can potentially use it elsewhere
Also, no guarantee that our pay adjustment is going to be what we expect. So, go through it all and negotiate and compare the both. Wishing you good luck! 🍀
Update - She ghosted me. Same happened to my wife as well who is also a consultant. All these seem to be Ops Roles.

Did that include stock? If not that’s low
It included stock and that’s what rattled me.
