I was headhunted on LinkedIn for a senior manager position with a stated salary range. Today I received an offer with a salary in that range although only a manager title. How to raise this with the recruiter? Or should I even - Is it a blessing in disguise (more pay for less responsibilities)?

Personally, I wouldn't say anything. I think you're right that getting the pay you wanted but with fewer responsibilities is absolutely a win.

like

My first thought is not to put too much stock in the title, as titles in different organizations can mean different things. If the salary is what you're looking for, it probably makes sense not to rock the boat asking about the title. And until you're in position you can't really be sure what responsibilities may land in your lap anyway.

like

Congrats. But are you certain it’s less responsibilities though? If it were me, I’d bring it up tactfully on the call to discuss the offer.

like

The title may be tied to a higher pay scale, offer greater incentive or bonus. It could also put you closer to a promotion or a raise sooner. At least if you leave for another company in the future the senior title could be a bonus for you. Positions at my company are tiered and a higher tier will put you in a higher commission rate, bonus or salary.

like

Not always. It can work against you. If the company decides to lay off employees because of financial reasons, those in the higher income bracket are often the first to get cut. If you so happen to be one of the ones to get cut, securing another position in this current market is next to impossible given the state of the economy. From my job hunting experience as a senior-level candidate, I am always being met with the: you are overqualified for the role excuse. Mind you that I am applying only for roles that align with my experience based on my previous role. This past June has made it two years into my search.

I’ve never been one to chase a title as I only care about salary, but if in this situation I’d probably ask out of curiosity only

like

Exactly this. I’ve earned more in Assistant planner than with my Planner job. Apparently the “benefits” are higher though most of them I won’t ever use.

I would reject this offer as it’s a sign of bait and switch

like

I've seen people get a higher title and get laid off because they don't hit the bar. Especially if the company is trying to raise it. I'd just take it since the pay is within the band, get yourself setup and learn the company and job, then kick ass and get a promotion.

like

Don't worry about titles. I had a position that was a manager and was elevated to Director with the same responsibilities and pay, simply because all the other direct reports were Directors. After I left, they changed the title to Coordinator and lowered the pay, with the same responsibilities.

like

title schmitle. Having "manager" in your title is more important, it gives you flexibility to be hired into other industries. Like Steve Miller said, take the money and run.

And learn the difference between "less" and "fewer".

like

Ask them if the manager title means more responsibilities?

I usually care more about salary than title but if it sounds like something that would bother you I think it’s worth asking the recruiter

ASK - after you accept the offer. Maybe it's an error.

Absolutely, you never know what they have in mind for the future

Many thanks.

(Note that you request them to review and give their pov earlier on, but they never take the time out)

Can someone please tell the details and when we can expect the new revised letter mentioning the new designation.

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?

Interviewing at a dream company, and right from the first interview the recruiter told me we are way off on salary expectations. This was a little bit expected, as the role is requiring a few years less experience than I have and also in a much cheaper market. They already told me the salary range during this first call, but wondering if they like me enough and I get an offer, how I might approach negotiating for more. I would be making much less than I do now, but it is a dream company.
