You’re not being “recognized”—you’re being exploited. Production loves squeezing the most out of the reliable ones while handing raises and titles to the loudest underperformers. Stop “stepping up” until they pay up.
The tasks split amongst producers, PMs and PCs often overlap and unfortunately i don’t think this is uncommon - i’ve experienced this lots myself. I often don’t get OT approved like my fellow crew does because that’s just “part of being a producer”. I don’t think it’s fair.
I’d keep a list of exact tasks you’ve done that are beyond your title and any OT hour that you’ve worked and keep fighting for your worth. It sounds like the way you have been performing they’d hate to lose you too.
And set your boundaries if they are giving you too much task. tell them your plate is full.
This happened to me once. It can pan out two ways, both of them good I think. Print out the job description you were hired to do. Add and highlight the additional things you’re doing that you were not hired to do. If you’re doing them great, then mention how excited you are that you were given more responsibility and how you’d like to be fairly compensated for these new items. If they don’t want to, then they should be taken off your plate. It also really really helps to obtain a job description of the role above yours - the role it sounds like they’re ALSO trying to have you do. Ultimately it’s pretty simple, if you can circle a fair amount of items that fall under the “producer” role, (or whatever the role above you is), there you have it. Arguing with words is one thing, but obtaining the job descriptions either from HR, or the company’s website or LinkedIn wherever they post the roles is another. Also - and I’m not suggesting you be litigious- you may want to read up on best practices on your state’s department of labor website.
Are you qualified to be a producer? And how long has this been going on?
