I was laid off earlier this month and spent the last three weeks panic applying to any job somewhat related to my area of expertise and have naturally received mixed results—everything from invitations to interview for roles I’m over qualified for to a ton of rejections to complete silence from companies with roles that would be a perfect match. Do you all have any advice on how to be more strategic with my job search to increase my chances of landing a job by January? Please let me know.

Seems pretty standard for it to be kinda all over the place, in my experience. You just gotta follow up when you can, sometimes there is no one to follow up with. Be patient if you want a job you're not over-qualified for. If you need a job NOW just take something and keep applying. Good luck!!!

I was affected by layoffs this year and struggled to find something for 6 months. If you are in an urgent financial situation, be very aggressive and take what you can get even if it’s lower level or part time or outside of your experience/industry/expertise. Then keep applying in meantime. Be aggressive but also give yourself grace and know that hundreds of thousands of other people are in your shoes and many don’t get another job for at least several weeks or sometimes months

In addition to what others have said, it is a really hard time of year to be looking for a job. With holidays coming, a lot of people are out. Best time to find a job is Q1. I would hunker down and watch spending or find seasonal retail work until January. Obviously keep applying but just something to keep in mind

Wow! What a day! What type of company starts layoffs right before the holidays? Lost my job this morning and I am stressed out. Is there any chance of finding a new job before the holidays? I'm doubting it.

Follow up post to my last post…My husband was laid off from the company where I also work. I am feeling really isolated / depressed about working and moving forward. I’m also getting to a stage where I’m really sad that people haven’t reached out to either my husband or myself to send well wishes or provide support. It’s like they don’t know what to say or I make them feel awkward so they don’t bother…I’m trying to focus on a few that have been supportive but it’s hard…Any words of advice? 😞
