There are lots of reports of organizations ghosting people, so somehow that has become normalized. It's bizarre, people would have been ashamed to behave that way a decade ago. Now poor manners and obnoxious behavior are traits to be admired and lauded, so here we are, even people in the legal profession act like rude middle schoolers. You can't take it personally, it's just our societal decline on display.
“Societal decline on display “ perfect explanation 💁♀️🥰
Take it one day at a time, and try not to be so hard on yourself. The market is really competitive right now, its not your fault and look at every rejection as a new opportunity to find the best new role for you. I know this is a hard and trying time, but you will get through this.
No advice but wanted you to know this does not define you. Find something to build your confidence pot and take it from there
Volume. I would apply for all jobs that match 60-70% of what you can do. Throw lots of buzz words in there and figure out a resume format that works. We were in this just not too long ago with my partner. We cut where we could. Had a 6 mo + plan. Good luck. It’s a hard and scary place to be but hope we see some pickup in the new year.
Have you tried reaching out to legal temp agencies? Perhaps temp income could take some pressure off of you. The market is bad. I wish you the best!
I am in contact with multiple agencies so trying all the things. Thank you for the kind words!
It’s not you. It’s the market being ultra competitive right now.
Getting laid off is hard on the pockets and psyche. I've been there. My humble suggestion would be to pivot into other professional areas that pique your interest. We have an arsenal of transferable skills. I just applied for a risk management position for a major corporation because my skills tracked with everything the corporation mentioned.
Here is another resource to sign up for:
https://www.theposselist.com/how-to-subscribe-to-our-job-lists/. Also, try applying for state lawyer jobs. They tend to be more a formal employment environment and the interviews are standardized (at least in the Attorney General's Office anyway).
Also. Contrary to how you feel, tell everyone you know you are looking for a job. People still get jobs the old-fashioned way - it really helps to “know somebody.”
Am so sorry. I am laid off too and this time around it has taken me longer to get re-employed at that anytime in my life. I have 44 years experience and never gone more than 6 weeks between jobs. I am almost at month 3. Just pray about it, put out your applications and take some time to recharge your mental state (fishing, photography, whatever is your passion, JUST DO IT for one afternoon). Know that the Lord takes care of his own. If you are not one, then think about becoming one, he loves you.
I think it’s a good time to find your own clients too.
What type of Law do you practice and what area? I am a recruiter and have some firms I’m actively recruiting and interviewing for in TX, LA, FL, TN. Off the top of my head, I know that I have Tax Associate, Healthcare Litigation Attorney, Immigration Associate, Business Transactional Tax Attorney, Energy & Environmental Associate (Partnership Track), and a few more. You can connect with me on LinkedIn and send me a message and I’ll go over the details of what I have with you, to see if any of the positions may be in your area of expertise. http://linkedin.com/in/kiesha3000
Note that you can try your University Alumni Associations as well, as a resource. Either way, I wish you all the best in your search!
