There’s definitely a shift happening. Roles tied to the physical world (operations, infrastructure, hardware, logistics) may be less directly disrupted by AI in the near term. But I suspect the bigger change will be how AI augments knowledge work rather than fully replacing it.
I’m sure we’ll see a change similar to the tech explosion during the dot-com era, but this time driven by AI. The concern is oversaturation, with more people entering than opportunities are being created.
Automation was a significant factor for the Great Depression, and we are seeing it again. Jobs that are less susceptible to automation will be safer, but that split isn't a clear line between office jobs and physical. We will see some labor-type jobs by automated as well. Then you have things like the trades, which will likely always rely on human labor. However, if no one has money to spend on projects, those workers will also be going without work.
