Hi Fishes
I want to share very bad experience I had at Mastercard
I was given offer by Mastercard in month of Dec The hike was less but looking at brand & other perks I accepted the offer & was looking forward to joining them.I got few offers & I went back to them for sole purpose of renegotiating CTC, to have a industry standard hike. They didn't reverted back for 2-3 days & just dropped a mail that they are revoking initial offer as well on grounds that they didn't like i gave other interview

They were most likely trying to understand how familiar your are with the current tech landscape shifting dynamicly. I hear you on that the interview should be about the job not the news. Most likely poor interview skills, there could've been better ways or approaches to getting to know more about your abilities.

I agree. But it all comes down to who is interviewing you. Everyone is different, has different styles, etc

It’s usually not a major focus in interviews. Most interviews center on your experience, problem-solving, and how you work with teams. That said, being generally aware of trends (AI, cloud shifts, security, etc.) can help in conversation — it shows curiosity about the field, even if it’s rarely a formal question.
Was it maybe a weird way for them to word current industry trends? That has always been important to follow, even if they aren't always posed as formal questions. Things like AI, privacy, and other hot topics could easily be brought up.
