I went in a few years ago for a neuropsych evaluation, and the conclusion was - anxiety, dysthymia, depression, PTSD, and only suspected for ADHD. Didn’t get meds, and the doctor asked me to work on the trauma.

Fast forward 2 years later, I don’t feel much depression or PTSD anymore. I do have my baseline anxiety, but the inattentiveness isn’t coming back. Rather I feel like I’m displaying some slight OCD like symptoms.

Wondering if the ADHD evaluation was wrong, and I actually had OCD ….

When I was diagnosed ADD, my doctor told me that it commonly pairs with OCD (where I also had some light symptoms) as a coping mechanism. The chaos is so overwhelming that the ADD / ADHD brain overcompensates by over-ordering or organizing things. (Even little things like messing up my notes and having to start them all over.)

So, it may be both. But addressing the ADD for me helped mitigate the OCD.

Resonates so much! If someone messes me or my system up or my notes, then I am overwhelmed and need to “start again”

… OCD all along, or I have learnt to over-compensate for ADHD. The only reason I think I have ADHD is because I am very very sensitive emotionally, and emotional hypersensitivity and deregulation has been an issue since childhood (getting better every year, but growing up in an explosive environment didn’t help either).

Anyone ever has been in the same boat - wondering between ADHD and OCD? Any point chasing further evaluation / any meds? Or I should stay off meds? I don’t want to take meds or fix things if they ever got very bad again.

For context - I had to leave consulting, but I feel as if I’m coping well in my current job, growing, always taking on more things. There’s definitely leeway to be less than perfect or delay things, which works for me and I tend to look more organized vs others.

California peeps. I have a feeling I failed FAR, which is my last exam, but my score isn’t released until May 11. Can I submit the reapplication with the CA Board of Accountancy to speed up the retake and NTS process in case I failed? Or do I need to get my exam score first? I need to pass by mid June, else my REG score expires, hence the rush to resubmit the re-application.

Neither of these feel that helpful. Any one have suggestions for other identity-based goals that get at these changes I want to make?

I recently got diagnosed with ADHD. I'm 31 and found this only because b school and post mba consulting job was/is much more challenging than anything I did before. What I'm confused about is that even as a teenager I could read entire books overnight. But the last two years of high school I started selectively zoning out and the problem has become worse since. I just realised it now. My doctor has suggested treating depression (I was also unaware of this) with Wellbutrin first (contd)

How do you deal with the following - 1) lack of general organization in life, note taking, keeping track of your relationships and 2) attention to detail. These 2 things have been bothering me a lot. We all are smart as hell but silly mistakes such as spelling mistakes, broader checks to be done on the deck is killing me. Also I feel the lack of organization in personal life blows into professional as well. If you are a consultant how do u deal with it ?

Hello All - I struggle with time management. I take medication but I have no idea whether a task will take 40 mins or 4 hours. Because of this, I over commit and under deliver. My psychiatrist today revealed to me that I may have ADHD, still a hypothesis that he is still exploring but from my personal experiences and discussions with therapist, it seems likely.

One example of personal experience is my ongoing prep for case studies as I'm interviewing with a number of firms. I do struggle to keep focus and generally take a bit longer to finish them, specifically the structuring of the case. Does anybody else feel the same way and any recommendations to overcome this?
