That's really intrusive and creepy. If they gave you the benefit, then you get the benefit. They don't have the right to measure you or weigh you to see if you're taking full advantage of it. That is so creepy.
So they didn’t provide the opportunity for everyone to have a gym membership?
Ummmm…..discrimination and body shaming? Sounds like it’s time to leave.
No, they just handed it to a select few and they’re not charged until you login and sign up for it. I refuse because it’s not near my neighborhood. In the event I were to leave the company. I am responsible for paying $150 a month for the remaining 12 months and I can utilize a gym membership for $30 a month right down the street from my house.
Ew. Give the membership back or just cancel it. That's your private life and the intrusion is not worth the $ they spend on a membership.
It's good that you read the fine print and know that. You can either tell them there's on down the street, which is incredibly convenient, for only $30 or a simple, " I'm good, thanks" is an adequate reply.

Wow that’s bizarre and I don’t know the full story but a previous I company I worked for did offer gym memberships to anyone. We did check utilization monthly not for any sort of shaming but simply to make sure it was being used (some people never set foot in the gym but wanted the membership).
I’m not sure the whole story as to why a select few were given gym passes, but if you asked for one and they are checking utilization it’s not entirely out of order but giving you a pass without asking and then verifying seems body toxic.
Oh, and it wasn’t discussed with me just thrown at me. I haven’t logged in a signed up due to the fact, is that any reason appointment is terminated you responsible for the $150 a month gym membership for 12 months. And they only have one location nowhere near my neighborhood. Therefore, if I were to utilize a gym membership, it would be closer to my house at a cheaper rate.
Be honest with your leader and let them know you have no intention of using it as it isn’t convenient for you. You owe them no further explanation.
Be vague. Something like, “yes, i’ve used it.” Or, “I’ve made some gains with my strength training.” Offer nothing else.
I agree it’s weird they only offered it to some people.
Yeah, no. That’s shamelessly gross.
That is creepy and horrible on both sides. If you are overweight, it's offensive that they bought it for you. If you are in great shape, it's not fair that the company pays for a gym membership for some but not all. Anyway look at it it sucks.
OMG if you decide to leave and you're stuck with $150 gym membership there is no way in hell I would sign that or join!
