If anyone could answer this with accuracy, they wouldn’t be on Fishbowl but any guesses on when our 401k balances get back to where they were? Two years, five years? 💰

Lemme just whip out my crystal ball..

It slipped out of their hand when they whipped it out. Broken now. Shame

You answered your question. No one knows and guesses are worthless.

like

Okay. Here are two guesses for you; 1/everything will turn around in a few months once supply chain issues get resolved and inflation subsides or 2/our republic’s voters want money now but pay for it later and we get what we ask for - stagflation continues and interest on the debt becomes a burden that locks up the federal government - the pain and drag on the economy takes 20 years for private sector to recover.

Faster if you max out your contributions

Fair point except contributions are maxed out and I’ve still had a $250K negative change. Womp womp.

Historically number of years from low to previous high for the nasdaq:
Dot com bubble = 13 years (2002-2015)
Great financial crisis = 3 years (2009-2012)
Covid panic = 3 months

For sp500:
.com = 5 years (2002-2007)
GFC = 4 years (2009-2013)
Covid panic = 5 months

like

This was what I was hoping to see - thank you! So somewhere between 3 months and 13 years, check. 😆

If I could answer that question, I wouldn’t be on Fishbowl

As soon as I’m ready

+/- forever depending on what you invested in and how much capital you’ve lost

You’re welcome!

I recently joined citi. I have been given choice for to select superannuation as 13% of BS or 12500/- monthly or zero.

This is one time selection and not reversible.

I am already investing 1.5 lakh in 80C through SIP and EPF.

I need more detail about superannuation and is it beneficial or not?

Also is there any retirement age in IT field 🤔 (or in citi)?

This is the first time I've considered work outside of higher education. I said my salary expectations are minimum $90k and that didn't seem to be an issue. Am I asking too little, too much? How can I know I'm getting the best salary and not just settling at the low end of the range?
