Tbh whenever I’ve tested a more interesting cta than Learn More or Explore or anything not super fucking basic, it doesn’t perform as well.

The issue is the lack of creativity that leads to the laziness that defaults to "learn more". It means nothing anymore.
This is why clickthrough needs to stop being a KPI. If banner ads were treated more like print and clients could see the value of messaging that focuses on branding and reinforcing associations instead of measured "engagement," we wouldn't be in this "learn more" hell. Strategy has put us here by trying to prove the effectiveness of roi of banner ads with impression measurements. It's made clients believe that banner ads are only effective if a person decides to click.
