There are no right or wrong answers in life. Just because you’re not a fit for the consulting skillset doesn’t mean you’re not necessarily a fit for the banking skillset. From my friends there, it’s more about your ability to be disciplined and grind so requires a bit more tenacity. Find your right tree friend, even if it’s not consulting, it’s something

Stop treating these as elite colleges. Do you have any interest in IB? Then go for it .
IB is a different kind of work and culture. Doesn’t mean you won’t do well in IB or any other industry if you don’t do well in consulting. It doesn’t even mean you’re never going to be good at consulting just because you’re not getting great feedback now. A lot of the success and failure stories are really dependent on the people and projects you’re staffed on, especially at this time when beachtime is lengthy and you’re getting fewer reps than usual
I think you should work on getting better & faster where you are. Investment banking is faster paced.
You’re going to learn a ton and get very good if you stay where you are for another 12 to 24 months. Painful now but I bet that can turn into growth. You got hired there in the first place. You are very smart and capable. Have confidence and good luck!
No. Investment Banking is very different.
In an i bank you would be making models/ppt and working on deals. It’s linger hours but actually not as intense as MBB.
In MBB the problem is there are too many smart people in small teams trying to outdo each other which creates group tension.,
Did 2 years of IB before consulting. At junior level problem solving skills aren’t important it’s all about work output.
IB is more hours and more output, but less problem solving. You may need Speed in IB however, especially when your MD reviews and sends edits on your deck at 11 pm and you have to stay up all night to redo the slides, print and bind the books by the 7 am meeting
Don’t assume that. Much of it will come down to how interested you are in what you’re doing. In the past I’ve done better in some high performance environments than I have in less busy environments.
I was under the impression that IB is easier as far as problem solving. It’s one set of skills you keep applying to similar problems. Consulting requires different skills and different problems depending on the case. I’ve never experience IB directly, just heard that from friends
