If you could give one piece of advice to someone new to HR, what would it be?
I think mine would be to learn how the business makes money—everything else becomes easier to understand.

I feel like you almost can’t have friends…..

I agree with this completely. Once I understood how the business makes money, everything else started to click. It changes how you see decisions, not just policies.

like

Exactly!

Don’t go into this because you “like people”. That is a career limiting move. Go into it with the understanding that your role is to provide value to the organization. Not the employees or the managers. It may mean having tough conversations with employees (and/or managers). Bad managers put the organization at risk. And being friends with the employees means at some point you may have to do things that won’t be considered friendly - case they are the right thing to do

Absolutely! 👏

Oh yes, this is a biggie.

Yes, get to know the business -- the product/service, the SWOTs, the competition, the status in the market (leader? second place? bottom?), etc. I believe everyone who works to understand the business of their employer is almost always going to be a better employee.

Agree!!

Anyone knows what's the payscale for Big 4 auditors for SA and below? And how is the work at audit like lately? Heard the turnover rate is beyond extreme after the pandemic and there's no longer a non-peak?

How does contract to hire work? If I’m offered $37/hr on w2 for 3 months and then possibly a permanent position, how much can I expect to get annually as a full time company employee as a BI data analyst II? I have a M.S. and certificates in DA but this will be my first job as DA.
I prefer working for what is offered on contract without negotiating, and then negotiate when I transition into the company itself so I have a better chance of getting the contract position and show my skills.

Hello people of San Diego! Would love to hear how y’all are affording to live here comfortably. Please state your company, position, TC, YOE, and do you have a side hustle? I’ll start - I’m an advisor in Wealth Management with TC of $70k, 3 YOE and no side hustle. Among other things, rent just jumped from $2500 to $3700 for 2 bedroom and areas were looking at. I’d like to “make it” here but if it means switching career to make money I’d like to get an idea to make the right job change.

I currently make 78k at Lockheed but I’m not doing what I’d like to be doing and i felt stuck and after many conversations with my manager and no solution in sight, I started applying elsewhere. I just recently got an offer from a smaller AI company for 95k that I plan to accept. I’m happy to make the jump, I just don’t know how my manager/coworkers will react when I tell them I’m leaving.

Any female and affordable range PG recommendation near Deloitte mumbai powai office(any location near to powai) ?

Why do recruiters seen zone your messages on Linkedin after you ask them for an opportunity to work in their company?

Kis baat ka attitude hain bhai itna ? And it happens mostly in India.

Just say NO, Sorry your skills are not a match, don't ignore. You were also candidates once.

Worse they say We'll check or get back to you. But never come back. Luckily I got selected into a tier-1 company and their Recruiter ignored me once 😂. I am gonna personally meet that recruiter on Day1.

Can anyone give me their honest opinion on working at Eli Lilly, the Indy site? I have a few coworkers that have worked there in the past but no one recently. I’m currently being recruited pretty seriously for a in-vivo technician position in the auto-immune team, but I already have a job lined up at Envigo as a small animal sx tech. Salaries would be comparable (Lilly would most likely be a little more with bonuses), but if the culture sucks, I’d hate to burn a bridge with Envigo.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to leverage the hive mind in finding out how best to negotiate a verbal offer for a 100%-remote Product Manager role in NYC, with a IT infrastructure/digital services firm (MNC but non-American):

Base salary: 120k

Sign-on bonus:10k

Bonus: 15%

No stock options

How competitive is this, and what should I negotiate for please? The written offer comes after verbal agreement.

I've 10 YOE in tech project management; 7 in product management.

Previously interned there & left because my supervisor did not have any growth opportunities planned out for me; this was in spite of my stellar performance, as reflected in my 90 day review.
