Guys , whoever is interviewing and planning to join , do ask project availablity on priority basis before you take decision. On Java front looks like there is some project issue due to recent slowdown in market. My offer was not revised even after agreement with recruiter because of this.

It's all lies. You weren't close. It's the recruiter version of , "you'd make a great boyfriend, and I know you'll find someone, but I'm not ready for a serious relationship".

You can ask. Most will avoid answering due to possible legal ramifications, or if they do answer, it most likely won’t be the complete truth. This is the kind of stuff you hire a coach for.
Take it as a loss, try to get feedback but more importantly keep yourself in the running for the next opening with them.

Had the same things happen a little while back in my career. I kept in touch and told them if something else came up to give me a call. I ended up getting an offer from them for a different position but great nonetheless.
Ask, but be ready for the answer to be incomplete or simply not helpful to you. It’s rare that these decisions come down to something that is actionable like “we really liked the other candidate’s answer to [whatever interview question] more than yours.” Take some comfort in the fact that if you made it to the final round, you are a good candidate who can get a job like this.

It won’t change the outcome. So do you really care? Do you think HR would give you an honest answer? I interviewed with a company recently and was told I didn’t get the job because I didn’t ask about the company culture. Does that make feel better? Not really.
I usually ask. I’d they say they liked me but xyz, i feel like it’s an invitation to keep in touch as positions open up. No idea if that’s true or not. But I’ve gotten jobs before after interviewing somewhere multiple times.

You should ask. I always follow up and ask for guidance on what specific constructive feedback they’d give. I learned a lot that way
