Coach
You must really like consulting to even ask this question. That is a ridiculously good offer.
If I was you, go find two or three MDs you trust and ask them what they think, you’ll get a better sense of if they feel making MD is worth it.
If you don’t have any MD who you can be that honest with, then to me you should leave, because you actually have no support and you think you do.
Coach
If they genuinely care about you, losing you won’t be a problem. Life is long, if they can’t have you on the team, they’ll happily take you as a client :)
If they don’t care about you and create toxicity, do you really want to be in bed with them for the rest of your career?
Either way, you’ll learn a lot about where you stand.
You said $750k RSU? 👀👀👀👀
Yes. Great exits like that are rare. If you take the leap and boomerang back I’m sure an MD role will be there for you... that’s when they know they’ll have you for life...
You never know if you will get the promotion. Take what you are getting now.
YES
What do you want?
I don’t want to be an MD so I’d go with the latter.
Yes

$750K is A LOT of RSUs. I would jump right away for that. If they materialized, I would be setup for retirement very early.
Two thoughts: 1) you need to look at the future pay and growth and not just compare to current TC now (risk adjusted of course) 2) I feel like 33% is very low so you need to think about what happens if you stay and don’t make it. Would this role be around? By doing so would minimise the downside
What is total comp annually OP? Is $750K RSU over x years?
Coach
Depends on the role at this tech firm and whether you just want to be a salesperson for the rest of your career as an MD
Not sure I understand why this is a question. The 750k of RSUs is about 580k more than you will get as an an L4. And you get to start the vesting clock 18 months earlier. If it’s a money questions you should totally take it!
I still think you’d make more money at tech than MD in consulting.
Yes
Do you come out ahead over 5 years average? If so do it. Either way you’re in great shape!
In a heartbeat
One in the hand is better than two in the bush
Expected value says to leave
For sure
Yes, any day. What’s the role?
