No harm in accepting, especially if there weren’t any huge red flags. Also it’s LinkedIn, don’t overthink it.
Agree, you could always cross paths in the future and it may be fortuitous to have connected now. Just don’t respond/reply if they ask why they didn’t get the role
I would accept (and have accepted from rejected candidates in the past). It can't hurt, and it's never a bad thing to grow your network. If they ask for additional feedback from you, you can just be polite and tell them that your company went with a different candidate, or if you truly hit it off with them and think they're mature enough to handle it, provide them with some constructive feedback.
For reference, I've definitely connected with individuals on teams that I've interviewed with even when I didn't get the offer just to keep the door open. I have NOT reached out to any of those connections regarding feedback from the interview process. Usually I'll go to the recruiter or hiring manager if I have questions about that.
Plot twist: 5 years from now, you need a new job… and he’s interviewing you.
Depends on your approach to LinkedIn- I think you are a shotgun blast versus a curated and validated network. If shot gun blast, add them may cross paths. If curated; do you have intent of reengaging or coaching or mentoring?
he knows he might not get it but still wants you as a contact for future opportunities
I’m the nice kid. :)
I usually send requests if I feel like I vibe-d with the interviewer.
Sometimes you interview people and they like you for your technical knowledge, your approach towards them and they look forward to learn from you. Linkedin connections are meant to enhance knowledge in field area. It’s perfectly alright for someone to reach out to you post rejection as long as they aren’t poking you or seeking any favours.
