Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks

I did a TOP midsize firm, went to regional, then to Big 4. Surprisingly, I enjoyed my top midsize firm more. So here is why:
1 - Work exposure - Regional is limiting in work complexity and the clientele is on the less wealthier side. You will have more client contact though, so good for developing people skills. Top Mid-size and Big 4 work is pretty much similar wealthy clientele (unless you switch areas like PCS to WAM).
2 - Pay vs Hours work - My regional firm was competitive (get overtime pay for over 40 hours worked, which ended up on par with market). Midsize paid more (5k - 10k) to lure talents over from Big 4. Hour wise, I worked a lot more in Big 4, but we were short staffed. I think overall, the hours (55-60 busy season) are probably same everywhere depending on your engagements.
3 - Learning - I feel like there wasn't much training/care/time in developing staff in Big 4. It was like you did your time and take xxx CPE courses for learning, so we are promoting you to the next level. I had more self development when I was at Midsize. Maybe it was due to working remotely or just the teams that I was on? But I noticed that some seniors didn't know things that had been drilled into me when I was a staff at top midsize. And other managers (with backgrounds in non Big4) also noticed the quality of staff wasn't on par too.
4 - Exit Opportunities - Well Big4 wins this one. All the job postings preferred Big4, even though I think top midsize candidates are just as good. Recruiters drool over my resume because of Big4 name recognition.
So when I got to the Big4 as manager, I was proud of myself in reaching a personal career milestone, but slightly disappointed with how the processes worked. So much admin work and general processes (getting access to things) was my challenge. I had no problems with managing my workflow (seems like same as top midsize).
Hope this long answer helps.
