I recently interviewed with MITRE for a systems engineering role to make the move from Leidos where I feel underpaid for the work I do and for my experience ($85K). I have 4 YOE, a STEM degree, and soon will have a Masters Degree. I’m looking to make around $120K in the new role at Mitre. Does anyone have any insight into comp there? This would be in the DC metro area. Does $120K seem reasonable or am I dreaming?

Yes! Each year becomes more and more difficult for me. I’m exhausted most days, yet I do nothing extra. I did not sign up for anything extra on purpose this year. It’s constant interruptions all day long. My calendar is overflowing with meetings and planning and conferences and consultations and please fill out this form and reply by this date etc. etc. The problems never get resolved, they get bandaged up. All those meetings were mere suggestions that go up in smoke. Then a new year begins.
I certainly would! I don't know when the shift happened, but I feel we aren't teaching kids anything useful anymore. Every day I question myself and wonder if I should get into something else.
Since I began my career, I’ve seen the state of education change multiple times, with the current state of education definitely being one of the most challenging. When I graduated college, open classrooms were fading out (What a disaster THAT was!) Now that my very long teaching career is ending, and I look back, I probably would have done something different if there had been more working class choices for women other than teaching, nursing and secretarial work at that time. (The latter two didn’t appeal to me.) I’ll never really know. I do know that, with all its ups and many downs, I have always loved working with very young children, and can only hope that the over 1,000 students I’ve taught in my career have gone on to fruitful, happy lives.
No. I still like what I do.
I wouldn't have changed what I do, but I would have certainly gone into a more specific field. There are so many options now for teaching at specialized schools, and I feel like my passion would be much better suited for that. I'm now in too deep at my position and couldn't leave because I have fallen in love with the school I'm in.
🤣 I left a bookkeeping job (boring) to become a teacher, and for the first 15 years, there was excitement, intrigue, challenge, inspiration…. Then came all of the new fangled ideas and theories and strategies; seemed like every year there was some new thing that was better than the old thing, and pretty soon there was no fun or excitement in teaching; we were only teaching to that all mighty state standards test. Skill and drill. ‘Peat and REpeat.
So NO, I would not have changed BEING a teacher, but I would have gotten OUT of the job (not a profession now) after that first 15🥺
No. Coming from the 70’s… same 🎪 different 🤡 🤡 🤡
Yes. But not I'm too invested, with my pension and emotion. Teaching has become such a facet of my character that I can't see myself anywhere else--even though I can't think of a single school that isn't a toxic work environment.
And that is also a difficult position to be in as well.

I was on another career and path (#passion) when it appeared that education may have chosen me: #purpose #prepared #willing #mutual
Yes and no. I love what I do, but it is beyond challenging. I’m too deep now to do anything else. I would have gone into the medical field or something in computers had I known what teaching would become. Like others, I’m exhausted all the time.
