I’ll start the bowl-ing. Went to law school at 26 so was pushing 30 when I graduated. I was so scared to fail the bar I stupidly didn’t line up a job right after law school because I was afraid of the prospect of having to be rejected by my employer in the event I didn’t pass on the first or subsequent tries. I passed on the first attempt but still needed a job. By the time I was finally in a decent law firm I was well in my early 30s and and only now in my mid 30s and still learning the ropes

What do you want out of your accounting career? Obviously money is a huge motivator, but is there anything else you want accomplish, build, complete?

If you had a mentor for your tech career what kind of things would you be most interested in learning about? If you already have a mentor, can you share the most valuable things you have learned?

Currently a post-MBA returning consultant at MBB. What firms should I target with significant Private Equity Ops groups or value teams? Have to leave after 2 years in consulting because I was sponsored but want to make sure that I understand the point at which I should be reaching out, etc.

I couldn’t get an internship while in school. I have a BS in ME and projects from school under my belt. I’ve also passed the FE exam. I’ve been mostly just doing CAD for a company for the last year by creating minimally dimensioned drawings and moving parts around in assemblies. I want to evolve in my career and be doing more. They want me to submit independent expert letters from people who can talk about the significance of my work to the Financial & Management field and US interest, from non-familiar persons. My current salary is under market average for my position but based off my coworkers’ negative experiences with asking for raises/promotions, I’m not really sure how to go about starting the conversation with my manager.
