I have a couple of questions for ZS fishes-
1. Is it possible to turn down a promotion at ZS? I'm currently happy with my responsibilities as a Decision Analytics Consultant and don't want any added responsibilities in the near future (next 5 years)
2. Is it possible to shape up a career path in the BC stream which doesn't involve business development? I don't want to get into working on SOWs and RFPs.

Keep for mouth shut until you have the offer in hand—it’s hard but alas the firm always finds a way.

Tough spot, but not worth the risk to give him a heads up before conflicts clear. Chances are you’ll be able to give notice in the next couple of weeks; and then it may be difficult for him and he may complain, but it’s literally part of his job to restaff something in these scenarios, so don’t worry too much about that.
Tell him you will need to take time off for something you can’t move and suggest he staff someone else
You can’t give just one partner notice. They have a fiduciary duty to inform their partners

Tell him you're busy/swamped but would be able to assist if someone else is also on team
I would try very hard to get out of the deal. Say you have upcoming time off or a personal issue you’re dealing with. If it’s a new adverse party, you’ll need to report it to your new firm, and god forbid it creates a new conflict issue.
A partner tried to staff me on a “fast paced” deal that would “definitely involve weekend work” two days before I gave my notice. I worked very hard to dodge it - he kept insisting I had time and I kept telling him I didn’t and couldn’t.
Once I gave my notice, he made a comment along the lines of “I understand now why you didn’t want to join that deal”

Wow, very perceptive that one!
