I’m 4 years into practice and still haven’t taken a true vacation. Even when I’m “off,” I’m checking email, fielding urgent requests, and half-expecting a fire drill. How do you actually unplug without torpedoing your reputation?

I take care to make sure that every single matter that could conceivably pop up has someone covering me on it. A lot of people tend to think “well if this pops up it will only take an hour and I’ll handle it” but a) it never takes just an hour, b) if it pops up while you’re out and about it stresses you out and c) a few of these in one week will tank your vacation.

On the flip side I try and be very available and willing to cover for my coworkers when I’m not out. I tend to also try to be available the week between Christmas and new years and the couple days before thanksgiving to cover people’s stuff. That way when I come into their office asking them to cover a random notice on a deal they know nothing about they remember those times I helped them out.

Set an out of office email response, tell your assistant you won’t be answering emails and to text only if there is an emergency, and enjoy your vacation. You have to set boundaries or it won’t happen. Your clients can manage for a week without you.

Would you take a freelance gig that would be a promotion (with potential to join full time) with a smaller company whose values you really agree with, OR a full-time offer for a lateral move with a larger company with teammates you know and trust? Of course factoring in all the nuances of covid. TIA!

Covid has been hard. March 2029- December 2020 I drank a lot to cope without realizing it. January- March I didn't realize I was depressed. March I came to terms with increase and ongoing suicidal ideation and needed help.

I went into a intensive outpatient program (IOP) which has been super helpful.

During the beginning of covid I drank every day and in a great deal. January it was a "dry" month which was hard the first week but overall great.

March 2021 realized I'm clinically depressed.

I am reaching out because I was recently contacted to interview for Cigna Provider Engagement Development Program. Any tips on the interview and interview process for anyone working in this position? I would be truly grateful for any help or information that can be provided!

What do you do when you feel the goalpost has been/is being moved re: billable requirements? Like there's a spoken vs unspoken? I chose this job based on billables vs salary and what I'm being told I'm expected to do now is 20-30% (at least) > than what was initially agreed upon. Given my other life responsibilities, this is creating a huge strain & I feel like this is slowly getting harder & harder on my spouse & kids. I'm grateful to have lots of good work but not sure how to course correct.

It is in appropriate to ask what the compensation for a position is after a first interview if they want you to go on three more and the interviewers on my first told me that was above their pay grade to tell me?????

Seems kind of ridiculous for a business to want to waste so much time to find out after a handful of interviews that the pay isnt aligned with my needs ......

I can see in biglaw not bringing up knowing damn well if you get an offer itll likely be high, but this is a midsize
