I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

Not weird. If they never got back to you or went with someone else for the job - then it shows you have no hard feelings. If they haven’t decided - it shows you can bring in work too from your agency side.
Not at all. I hire freelance all the time and know people will be booked. It never ever reflects bad on them - in fact it’s the opposite. I know they are good!
Why not hit up the rep?
Yeah they reached out for a job after the interview but I was already booked at my current agency... I just didn’t know if it would hurt my chances at working with them in the future cos I’m still at this agency... but hoped that the prospect of work would be welcomed!
Not weird at all. Jobs and freelance are very fluid in our world. And if you hire them, it ends up being kind of a trial run of them working with you and getting to know you. Only good things can come from it. And if they bid and you don’t select them, just make sure you’re honest and forthright and make the hard phone call to tell them. Not doing that is the worst.
They never responded hmmm
