I think you mean something like line manager, not direct report. The people reporting to you will be your direct reports. As far as brief creation, just consider if it has what the team needs to create good work. And make sure it’s been approved by the client before they get it.
Glad I made that mistake on Fishbowl first haha thanks for clarifying

Do unto others as you’d have done unto you. Think about your best managers and what made them great. Opposite goes for the bad ones. Practice mutual respect and transparency and provide support. Bring ideas to their work better but don’t be their competition.
My worst ACDs always put competition before leadership. They’d constantly drag my ideas in front of our CCO in meetings in favor of their own. Their insecurities created such a toxic environment that I bolted to another shop shortly after they joined my team. Definitely a learning opportunity and a lesson for ‘future me’.
CD1 is on point, id add that you need to trust your criteria, you’re getting promoted for a reason and you know what you need in a brief to do good work. Be assertive but open to listen, ask your creatives what they like and consider their opinion without forgetting that you are leading. Get to really know your creatives and their needs, and most importantly, keep getting involved in brainstormings and deck creation, no one likes the cds who just talk and do nothing.

My take 🤷🏻♂️: Ideally look at the brief BEFORE the briefing. Think back to all the vague shit briefs you've had to work on and wished you had the clarity and answers to. Strategy, objective, deliverables should line up. Why are we doing this? What's the business problem? Who's the audience? It's a vetting process. Ideally also think beyond executing on the brief and spot potential for more, but cautiously since budgets are always tight and fickle. Your team should ask their own questions for what they need during, if not open it to them and invite them to. Regroup with the team after for real talk if necessary.
I’m in the same boat, OP! Following 🙃
And good luck to you! You got this.
