an additional card on my account? In addition, is it my credit or her credit impacted through her having the additional card? We did have to give her social. This is the optional gold card addition on to a platinum account. Thank you
@SC1 that's partly true. Closing the card doesn't affect it by itself, but it can lower your average age of credit which can hurt you.
No. She’s an authorized user on your account. It shouldn’t impact her credit at all. You, as primary account holder, are fully on the hook for all charges, regardless of which card was used
It is also a mistake to believe your credit score lowers when you close a cc. I open and close a new one every year and I have an 820 credit score.
B1-I’m an authorized user on my husband’s AmEx (he had it before we were married) and it’s definitely on my credit report. Anything negative would affect both of us.
K1 is right about the effect of closing a card
This would have such a minimal impact on the credit score that I wouldn't worry about it
Just keep her on the account and take away the card if you must at a later date. I have added users to my cards - it’s definitely helped them build up their credit score... and they don’t even use the card now. I just get renewed cards and cut them up.
