I’m at B4 and have some upcoming interviews for new roles. I was hoping to get some guidance on how appropriate it is to mention a desire for better WLB during an interview. Not necessarily looking for less work, just don’t see myself in a client-facing role with unpredictable timelines for much longer. Currently targeting senior FP&A/Corporate finance positions. TIA

Don’t ask the interviewer. Reach out to other people on the team that are at your level if you progress further in the process.

like

I think being up front will get you the job you want. That also means that somebody companies will want a person who doesn’t care about WLB and will pass.

In the same vein I wouldn’t harp on it bc everybody obviously wants to get paid more to work less.

like

I agree with the above. I’m doing the same approach.

I think there are angles towards asking this without coming across like you’re adverse to working hard.

I’d personally phrase it by enquiring about what a typical month end looks like, including time to month end close, what work is done outside monthly close etc.

Ask about whether there is opportunity where’d you’d be covering for other people when they go on PTO (and likewise for you) - this will help know if you can truly disconnect or whether there are blackout periods of no leave.

…also, ask AI on this topic for some ideas.

Good luck!
