I actually don’t think this is the forum to ask about compensation and benefits unless they bring it up.
Some questions could be 1) about the culture 2) morale of the team 3) return to work plans 4) relationship with auditors 5) types of technical accounting issues to date 6) use of outside consultants 7) how many business days do they aim to close in
That’s what I got off the top of my head! Good luck!
For what it’s worth here are some additional tidbits:
I’m an M2 and have spent my entire career in public and small to midsize firms.
They have a pretty decently staffed accounting group (AP clerk AR clerk, Senior,l Accountant, Accounting Manager, Senior Accounting Manager, and Controller).
They were acquired by private equity last year.
I have no experience with NetSuite (what they use).
EDIT: The recruiter let me know to save the HR stuff for him, so that’s why I mentioned if there are other questions outside of compensation/benefits I should ask.
Comp is the last thing…. Or you’d wait for an offer after it. Seal the deal, make them want you. Ask about the initiatives they are trying or have attempted to improve processes. Think about potential solutions to challenges you might know they are facing. Anything valuable that shows you are thoughtful.
What is the role split between Senior accounting manager, controller, and assistant controller. Seems like there will be quite a bit of overlap. You should also ask about when they plan on selling next - new ownership tends to shake things up.
The Senior Accounting Manager was formerly in AP and transitioned into a general role eventually making senior manager.
The Controller is primarily involved at a high-level (final sign off month-end close, financial statement prep, technical accounting, etc.). I think I’ll slide in to do more of the responsibilities the Controller has rather than the senior manager.
Just curious, what’s the target comp range they mentioned (if at all)? And what’s the target comp range you are looking for as assistant controller, and are you in HCOL city ?
They’re willing to go with a base comp of at least $105k+, but I bet I could get another $5k out of them.
I’m currently at $86k, so I’d want to get at least a 20% raise.
Currently in a MCOL (though costs are rising quickly)
