I’d return back then put in leave if there’s not a stipulation in your contract. Also be mindful of dates too if you’re on company insurance. When you leave you’re only covered thru end of month
While I agree with A1, I think carrying the mental load of wanting to resign and not doing it put a lot of stress on me, and I thought about it far too much on my leave. My manager checked in on me a month before I was supposed to return (wanted an exact return date), and that didn't help my indecision anxiety. Consequently I went back to work for several months until I finally resigned. I think if you go back to work with "plans" of resigning, you might end up working longer than you'd like. I realize I'm projecting.
Check your employment contract first of course. Consider drafting a heartfelt letter of resignation to your manager and another letter for HR. Let your manager know you'd be willing to work another X weeks to assist during a transition (unlikely they will take you up on it but the offer is a good reflection on you). Keep the letters in your drafts with a date in mind of when you'd send them, primarily to take advantage of all your leave benefits and give you some peace of mind.
Good luck!
