I don't think that's a trend, that's just people being careless. If something like that happened I might just email and ask for the password. Or I might just pass on it if their email didn't impress me anyway. Perhaps people do that as a way of gauging interest, to see if someone will ask for the password. That sounds crazy, but you never know what people might do.
This happens ALL the time. And it literally drives me insane. Sometimes I wonder if they even realize that their portfolio is password-protected.
A view from the applicant side: You include the password in your email and then days (sometimes weeks later, you suddenly get a flurry of urgent emails asking you for the password because the recruiter hasn’t read your email. If I had a dollar for every time this has happened…
