There's basically no ROI on a JD unless you want to be an attorney. And, the only way being an attorney pays better than consulting is in BigLaw. If you've been in the workforce for a while, that experience will be basically irrelevant in BigLaw, and you'll be competing with 23 year olds with no responsibilities outside of work.
That said - the law is fascinating, and you will probably use some of what you learn in law school in consulting. So, if you have the ability to go back to school for the love of learning - go for it.
It will be a negative ROI unless you get into a top JD program, get top grades, get into Big Law. That will take 3 years. Then you need to make partner or start your own firm. So probably 10 years total. If just looking to do it for the money, it's a bad idea. If you want to do it out of curiosity, also probably a bad idea. Polling of Doctors and Lawyers show the vast majority regret their decision and wouldn't recommend anyone to enter the field.
Not crazy but ROI is unclear
It only makes sense if you really want to be a lawyer and can get into a T14 or preferably T6 school.
If you can afford it financially, go for it. Maybe the financial ROI doesn’t make sense, but the ROI on your career, wellbeing, purpose, etc does.
JD+MBA is a major power play in both private sector and public sector. The pendulum will swing the other way soon enough with respect to the public sector and top talent will be sought after - and perhaps paid more. But the key is keeping opportunities open and having a sense of what you want to be doing in a few years.
JD and MD is great for Accenture Health Strategy . From what I’ve seen and enjoying it
