I'm in wipro since 2.5 yrs n worked for 2 yr in a functional support project. Total ex: 2.5 yrs.
Now i am trying to switch into dev role in java and also getting selected in multiple companies as a java developer bcoz i lied to them that i worked in wipro as a java developer but before interviews i prepared a lot for interviews and now getting selected.
But thing is i am afraid if i wont be able to work in new company in development area as i have never worked on development part.

😀i worked 1year in testing, then switched to dev after it . And about learning, as work will come u will learn automatically ✌️ starting day will be hard for sure but after few weeks u will become pro 😊

Everybody lies!! You are not the only one.

Trust me all u need to do is give some extra hours everyday.

I have transitioned from tech support to Analytics.

likeupliftingsmart

Fake it till you make it :) Its not your fault that Wipro allocated you to that project. But its your fault it you dont take the leap now. Just do it

You will make up in no time. Just go with the flow. I was joined as a fresher and without any training in 2nd day I was put in a project. I eventually learnt it as i have no choice. Its spontaneous. Be happy you got yourself the skill you really want

Thanks bro and all the best to you too.
Thanks for coming to this thread. Now, i cn sleep peacefully.😊😊😊👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏

Don't worry just keep working hard once you are in your new role ... I was in support profile for 6.5yrs with my first company... Made a switch worked as a Dev for 1year..made another switch and currently working as Dev lead.

This is quite common as RM's of typical service companies have this knack of just dumping a fresher to role without looking at the person's profile or aspirations.

The move helped me get out of my comfort zone, provide a better standard of living for my family and mainly work in a space where I get to design the architecture of the overall application. All these have definitely put a smile on my face and make me have some mental peace.

From a lead perspective you may be asked to share some best practices that you would like to inculcate into the new company, your experience with managing team members of any, allocating work to team members and interacting with business stakeholders to name a few.

I myself worked as a QA for 5+ years and then switched into data engineering with python and aws tech stack and that too in a product company.
I was nervous at the beginning just like you but within a couple of months i became used to development. So my advice will be to just take a chill pill and go with the flow. Cheers.

likehelpful

Could you please tell how did you swtiched without experience in data engineering? I'm in QA and trying to get into dev role.

Just chill, u have only 2.5 year experience, they will not expect more from you because u will be working as junior developer. Just make good patchup with your colleagues in new company and learn from them.

Thanks for replying, you guys are making me more n more confident.

This is a classic case of impostor syndrome. Don’t worry! You got this, my dude. If you learnt java and cracked interviews I’m confident that you’ll learn the ins and outs in no time!

likehelpful

Already few people have given their opinion, I am also like the same, I am working on a Dev project still I am afraid to switch as the version I am working on is too old, Thanks for posting this, Will help other junior developers too!

like

Don't worry about this... Similar way I switched to Manual Testing to Full Stack Java developer role.. so far so good and don't worry about that...you will learn and work and grow..

Ease is a greater threat to progress than hardship!!
You're on right path!!
Once you debug the code of the project on any IDE, you'll get used to the code, so just dive into the existing code and swim 😀

likeuplifting

This is quite frequent occurrence in IT industry.. Go for development and give your best...

likehelpful

Same happened with me 10 years ago in Wipro itself. I was put into support project for a year. I too studied for interviews and lied that i worked in development. When I got selected in a dev and started working, it just took a week or so to get the whole gist of live project setup and inter dependencies.

So do not worry. Sometimes you have to take fate in your control. If I hadn't taken that decision 10 years ago, i wouldn't be a successful architect today

Thanks, appreciable

Life of a developer revolves around learning new things, every now and then. This is just one of the many challenges you will face as a developer. Take it head on with positive mindset. All the best.

Get the job, start working and learn from your colleagues as much as you can. Put in as much effort as you can. YouTube videos can be of great help.

In a few months, you will be as good as any other developer, maybe even better than others

I did same. I know many who did same too.

I was too in Wipro and had similar case. I worked on data structure and algo and eventually got into a product based company as a developer.

Its been nearly 3 months since i joined, and I am still stuggling. My advice is - you should join any service based company like Infy, TCS, and they will give you ample time to settle and learn.

You dont have any other choice, you have to switch otherwise you wont progress much in IT.

All the best. Show courage and have a never give up attitude.

I have decided to go back to my previous company and they've asked me for my updated resume that'll go through a simple rehire process.
