I don't know what articles you've read, but as a general concept, if you want to get into AI, on path would be to take courses in machine learning. And there are certifications you could obtain related to machine learning. The problem with a lot of the writing about AI is that the term is used so broadly that it could often comprise any number of things.
Definitely understand the math behind LLMs and advanced statistics
What courses or certificates do you have? Without experience that will be the only way to set yourself apart.
