Take the new job and don’t update your LinkedIn. There’s no guarantee that you’ll get one of the other jobs. A bird in the hand….
Negotiate with them. You can negotiate better when you don’t really want it. Might be able to get 5 k more or something else. I recently negotiated 10k above the offer as I had no plans of accepting. Then I took the job 🙈
The advice about taking this job and continue looking is shady for me because I took this job and decided to continue looking but am not actively looking anymore..reasons:
- I’m kind of getting settled at the new place
- it’s embarrassing to myself to look for a new job so soon, I’ll try switching in a year
- the pressure to update LinkedIn was too much, my old place was putting up these banger job openings which everyone wanted a referral to from me. I had to tell at least five people I wouldn’t be able to refer them as I’ve changed jobs and they wouldn’t believe me 🤡
- after going through a job switch it’s a very welcome breather to stop applying and just take a break from LinkedIn and feel the stability of actually being wanted at the new job
I think you need to consider where a 30% pay rise is really justified. In the current market 20% seems fair, you’re going to look arrogant and ridiculous to a HM asking for as much
I’d just ask them if you have have a few days to make a decision. You may not be able to push out too far but at least buys you time to get through interviews and see if you even like those other companies once you talk to the team. You’d also need to let them know you need to fast track the process because you have other companies you’re considering when you interview.
