For me, one of the biggest things I focus on is whether you have the ability to transition from the checklist mentality and very clear directions to creative problem solving and being able to figure things out.
Good luck to you!
A lot more autonomous especially if you are in a smaller market. Similar amount of work, but many managers to talk to and managing different clients is the hardest part. Also you have the ability to do non audit things, but that’s based off preference.
I think that the traditional audit groups are account centric when the risk group is just what is in front of my plate and what do I need to get done. Still have to work late hours but it’s usually on your own terms and you aren’t working as a team at a client until 9pm - you are working until 12 am at home or in a hotel
^ well said - being able to identify risks / opportunities, as well as plans to address, is a big focus point I look for.
I went from audit to risk advisory. In Many ways risk advisory and audit are the same thing. Most risk advisory positions require mainly audit background so really you’re just selling what you already do.
For me I focused a lot on my soft skills. Client facing is big in advisory so anything u can align your background to this would make you look good as well. So talk about how you lead walkthroughs, meetings, inquiries with the client, etc. even if you did it once, u still did it, so talk bout it.
Just remember, if they bring you in for a interview, it means u qualify on paper, so it’s really just about them getting to know u. Be confident going into your interview and u should be good
