I’m looking for an accountability buddy. My initial goal is to lose 20 pounds in two months. To do this, my plan is to eat healthier and in smaller portions (track my food intake), and workout at least 3x per week.

When do you usually exercise?

I’m really good at being consistent with my workouts when I can get off of work by 6! The challenge is actually getting off by then 😒 I’m working from home and did try a workout over lunch once! I just don’t really know how to cut my workout short. Just the cardio portion took about 35 minutes, so to fit the weights and actually eating in there too is almost impossible 😕

Week 3 update:

Mixed feelings this week. It was a busy week at work, so didn’t get moving as much as planned, but also didn’t exercise as much self control as I should have diet-wise this weekend. At one point mid week I was just above 270 lbs. 😔 Despite going into another busy week, I’m feeling motivated to finally get back into the 260s! This week’s meals have been prepped, and the community gym will be reopening tomorrow; feeling very optimistic!

It finally happened!! I’ve crossed the threshold into the 260s, and I’m so excited about it! My plan seems to be working, slowly but steady. Just gotta stick with it and stay committed. I’m a bit behind on my overall goal (20 lbs in 2 months), so I may have to make a couple more changes to my meals to try to get back on track (ie. no more takeout on Fridays).

This past week was tough! Between working crazy hours for EY, to eating food at the pizza shop while helping out because I didn’t have time to cook, nothing went according to plan. Didn’t meal prep, barely got 6 hours of sleep a night, and didn’t get a single workout in 😫 I’m glad I didn’t gain weight, but I’m sure that’s probably due to the semi-starvation and running around the shop. Disappointed to think how much I could have lost had I been able to stick to my plan. Hoping the current week will be better, but given that I’m just now having time to make my post, I’m not that hopeful ☹️

Good news - made the chili! Bad news - still didn’t have time to workout and actually gained weight as compared to the amount I had lost as of Saturday. But I’ll focus on the positive and just keep trying to do what I can do, even if the emphasis is largely on diet. 🙂 Looking forward you seeing your update Buddy!

Weight: 269 (5.4 lbs gain)
Workouts: 2/3

Major setback this week as anticipated. We had plenty of unhealthy food and takeout. Add to that drinks and desserts, and my weight took off ☹️ I’m back home this week, and on vacation, so will get back on track! I’ve officially failed my goal as it has been more than two months now, but will keep working at it and posting til I get to 255lbs!

I like the way you worded that! Maybe if I think of it that way (only 14 more lbs) rather than focusing on my overall weight I will feel more motivated. Worth a try!

Weight: 265.8 (3.2 lbs lost)
Workouts: 1/3

Surprisingly had good results this week! I didn’t exactly lead a healthy lifestyle since I was on vacation (only one workout, plenty of desserts). Guess the movement from helping out at the pizza shop helped! Only 11 more pounds to go! 😃

Workouts: 2/3, all cardio. Will need to stop being lazy and get moving more! Focus this week is on more strength training
Overall feeling happy with the initial loss, largely due to diet changes (far less sugar, controlled portion sizes).

Rough week, didn’t meet my goals. Part of the reason was clearly laziness, but part was also because I spent most of the week and weekend with my parents. Largely unhealthy eating except for the days I ate the food I brought from home, but could have been worse (I avoided all three dessert options everyday except for one cookie on only one day). Should be able to get back on track this week as I anticipate being home all week!

Taking my own food seemed to be a good idea. There’s really no contingency plan for visiting them - they’re who I learned my unhealthy eating habits from, and are not supportive when it comes to dieting. That’s why I’m pretty proud this week’s results weren’t worse 😅 But I probably won’t visit again til October, so should be alright

Week 5 update:
Weight: 266.4 lbs (3 lbs lost)
Workouts: 2/3

A surprisingly good week! I focused on eating the appropriate portion sizes, even though the food itself wasn’t the healthiest, and I think the sustained weight loss shows anything in moderation is ok! I only had 2/3 workouts, but it really could be like 5/3 considering over the weekend I helped out at a pizza shop and was running around like crazy 😅 Overall I’m happy with the progress, and my cankles are slowly turning back into ankles!! 😃 Going to make some chili for this week’s meal prep, so I’m expecting strong results this upcoming week!

It was a pretty busy week with work, but I managed to squeeze one workout in! This week I am staying with my parents to help out around the house, so I don’t anticipate positive results this upcoming week (we’ve already had fast food three times). But I did get a workout in already, so who knows!

Week 11 update:
Weight: 265.8 (no change)
Workouts: 0/3

I definitely was not focused this week. Maybe it’s because it was Halloween, but I had plenty of sweets and alcohol this week. I need to find a way to re-incentive myself to stay dedicated! This week is going to be busy for work, so diet will definitely be important if I want positive results next week.

Since work is generally 8am-8pm this week, it gets dark at 5 now, and the gym is only open from 9-5, literally the only thing I can do is monitor my diet and portion sizes. That and sleep haha

Week 12 update:
Weight: 262.8 (3 lbs lost)
Workouts: 1/3

This past week was as terrible as I anticipated. Fortunately I had meals prepared (portion-sized and healthy), and I cut out sugar. I think cutting out the sweets made the biggest difference! Looking forward to this week I think it’ll be less busy but still challenging to get a workout given our ridiculous gym hours. Focus will be on the diet again and body weight exercises. Only 8 pounds to go!

Thanks for the enthusiasm! 😃 I really suck at cooking so I offload some of the responsibility haha! I have a protein shake or a nut bar and fruit cup for breakfast, then use a meal service called Top Chef Meals for either lunch or dinner each day, then finally eat one of the meals I meal prepped over the weekend for the last meal of the day. I’ll also have one or two small snacks a day in between the meals, so I’m usually eating every 4-5 hours.

Yes, sorry. Lost a pet recently and just haven’t been feeling motivated to do anything honestly.

Week 13 update:
Weight: 264.2 (1.4 lbs gained)
Workouts: 1/3

Didn’t stay focused the weekend. I ate well and got some exercise during the weekend, but then I caved into one sugary treat which then spiraled like it always does 🙁

Between a surprise visit from family and losing my pet, I don’t think this current week will be much better (already had comfort food twice). I’ll look to rebound after next week.

Week 14 update:
Weight: 263.4 (0.8 lbs lost)
Workouts: 0/3

This week’s weight loss is probably a fluke/due to water weight. I ate poorly all week long but did move around at the shop over the week. Hoping to get back on track this week. Those last 8 pounds are rather evasive!

Any tips for organizing a bedroom, closet, dresser & bathroom? My teen has IADHD, and low executive functioning. Her room looks like a land mine. Clean clothes are mixed in with dirty, her desk is a disaster, she won’t let go of clothes she’s outgrown, drawers are open with clothes hanging out. I just started meds yesterday and the change in my focus and attention to detail is mind blowing. My only concern is, just yesterday I had a tough feedback session with my manager around how I’m taking too long to complete my work, giving them anxiety around close deadlines. I’m switching to Strattera (from Adderal XR) after some stories shared in this bowl, and some family members who have been really happy with it.

On my first full dose today and man the nausea is real. Understanding now why my doctor told me to split the dose into different parts of the day. Should have listened. 😅

What misconceptions do you think people have about social work? or therapy?

My base location does not have a hot seat.

Should this not be the focus from HR side to get a seat allocated rather than pushing employees to report to a random office that have a seat.?

And On top of that we have to take care of our own commute even when we are in shifts.
