Bowl Leader
I’d avoid. Did this for a “well branded” startup and it was just a farce
Thanks for chiming in! What challenges did you experience going this route? What route did you take?
Great salespeople don’t go into “commission only” roles unless there is a required demand for the product. For example, real estate - commission only - people need homes. Car salespeople still get a base (even though it’s basically minimum wage) not everybody needs a car.
I’m in sales - I’ve got a $250k base, because I create my own demand.
Completely agree with avoid. I don’t think any legitimate IT organization would operate this way.
A respected, albeit opinionated colleague of mine shared this perspective when I asked this question - I’m presented frequently with this type of scenario- and have tried a few. Sales is a numbers game - it’s given you’ll only win a percentage of contacts you make. So unless the commission is huge, no self respecting seasoned sales person works for commission only- or they will be hungry ! Also, understand how any contacts / pipeline is managed should you build one and get downsized if funding falters. Hard decision - tempting !
