How early is too early to ask for a raise?
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase?Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Not an expert whatsoever. From what I’ve see and heard, overall salaries are significantly significantly lower in the U.K compared to the U.S. This may differ for U.S based companies with U.K locations though.
Usually most companies won't cut your pay (since it can be constructive dismissal). Presumably they like you, my guess is you'd likely be kept whole (although it's possible they'd have to restructure it a bit). I imagine you might be red circled for awhile though.
