I'm starting my first job specializing as a ux designer next month at a small software company. I'm transitioning from a graphic design career with only UI exp. If anybody has some advice or things they wish they knew before starting their ux jobs it would be really great to hear!

You might not understand all of the programs/software/websites they use to manage the product. Don’t sweat it.

If you don’t know how to do something, that’s ok. Just ask or say… I don’t understand/know this. No one will be mad (unless they suck as humans).

Learn the lingo. Every company has their own lingo but most design teams/product teams use verbiage that might not be familiar. Google was my best friend.

Good luck! You’ll do great.

I think understanding ux best practices is going to go a long way. At the beginning I googled a lot as well and learned common terminology in ux. I also have a graphic design background and I think having that visual design button down is going to go a long way. Focus on learning UX and also don’t forget about accessibility! Best of luck!

I have an interview tomorrow to work at a fintech startup. I'm slightly worried as I'm not sure what it'll be like working While they use functional programming which I enjoy, I'm concerned about how much pressure I'll be under.

What is it like working at a fintech company? Is the salary at a fintech company typically higher than other tech jobs? It'll be higher than gamedev, but just wanted to learn about whether the pressure will be worth it eventually etc.

Sharks and other fishes,
I need some career advice,
In my current company I think the development portion I've been given is kinda simple, I've asked my manager and seniors to level up my work and stuff, *which they did* but I kinda caught up.. now what should I do, should I ask them to level up again or look for better opportunities
Also, I had some Interest in CyberSecurity and I grinded it on my pre-final semester at Uni, should I try on that path as well or should I stick to development?

I know this question is somewhat vague and broad but I’ll soon be joining a Banking & Finance team (in BigLaw) as a junior associate. I’d be grateful for any tips on how to thrive in this role. What characteristics make a good junior transactional lawyer?

Should I stay in my role a bit longer to gain experience or I am not able to find remote or hybrid matching my profile. Your advice and comments are much appreciated.

So supposed to head out of town for a long weekend with friends starting the evening of 4/21. My one friend and her son tested positive for Covid on 4/13 and have been sick. Looking for some advice on a career change. I work in a technical role and have well-developed soft skills. I want to transition to UX (w/ focus on accessibility). There are a lot of UX educational programs out there, some very new, e.g. Dribbble, and costs are all over the place - General Assembly is $15k (and full-time), CareerFoundry almost $8k, and then many others at a fraction of the price. Reviews also vary wildly. Are these more expensive programs worth the huge increase in cost?
