I’m talking to a recruiter about a firm that looks solid, but the interview process starts with an informal dinner before any formal meeting. That somehow feels harder than an interview because it’s less clear what they’re evaluating. Lawyers who’ve gone through that kind of process, how different is the dinner from the actual interview in practice?

It's definitely more casual and informal than an actual interview. But I also don't think it's as much about evaluating your skills and capabilities as it is assessing your personality and vibe. I would just go and see how it is without stressing too much.

This happened to me once. But when I got to dinner, I realized I wasn’t really being interviewed. The guy was trying to sell me on his firm more than anything else.

I went through this process, however it was an informal lunch not dinner. I just approached it as an interview. I get what you mean about it feeling harder than an interview, I barely ate and felt the restaurant atmosphere was distracting. I ended up getting the job though! It’s really just an initial screener and remember they wouldn’t want to meet with you if you weren’t qualified. Like someone else said it’s more about assessing your personality and whether you’re a culture fit.

About to get promoted at PwC from Associate to Senior Associate (mgmt consulting). I interviewed at Deloitte for a Consultant position, but they’re potentially giving me an offer for BA. I’d essentially be holding out on the promo until next promo cycle. Usually, I’d understand hiring at a level below for higher levels but I feel like doing a 3rd year as a junior might not be the best decision. Should I push HR for Consultant level? I haven’t gotten the official offer letter yet, just verbal.

I’ve worked in sales for 12 years (8 years retail sales and management, 4 years inside tech sales and management). I’m feeling the burn and looking for something else in the tech field. I’m making $140k. I have a college degree but no marketing, engineering, or product experience. What other departments/jobs could I jump to and still keep close to my OTE? I’m pretty good at Salesforce and have thought about a SFDC admin type role, but that’s all I’ve thought of so far.

Any tips on how to deal with this…my entire team was let go today (was 5, now just me). We functioned as the Marketing team for 4 brands and primarily focused on product launches and sustaining social media content. My plan moving forward is to only focus on the top revenue driving product launches for now and say “no” to basically everything else. Would love to hear from anyone who has been in a similar situation and can offer some advice.

Curious if anyone else is or has been in the same boat. I started as an assistant at an entertainment law firm prior to passing the bar. Upon passing, the partner told me they would hire an assistant for me since I now became an associate. Is this normal in the entertainment world? Any suggestions?
