I have tried just about every app out there and still come back to Apple. But all my devices are Apple so it just streamlines things for me. I make different calendars on there with different colors, and it does the trick well enough.
I echo what others have said: stick with what you know and like.
It's fine to experiment to find a better experience, but I don't think there is one "right" answer for everyone (or for everyone with ADHD).
I use Gmail and Google Calendar. I gripe and groan when they update it, but I won't change (unless they completely ruin it and I have to start over).
I despise Outlook email (had to use it when working for others), and I will never willingly use it or Outlook Calendar, but I have colleagues (and a spouse) who love it.
I don't do Apple at all, but my adult children swear by it.
Skylight Calendar!!! I get so thrown off using different calendar systems for personal, work, side hustles, family, and all else. I have my Skylight Calendar on my home office desk, so I never miss a meeting and know what’s coming next in my day. The ability to email photos and screenshots of event details and get it added to my calendar is fire. The mobile app is also awesome on the go.
Expensive, but so worth it. You can also buy them at Costco. Or you can get $20 off codes from any user readily online.
It really comes down to what ecosystem you use. I haven't used Apple products in ages, and I have a Pixel phone, so the Google calendar works fine for me. I can see it from any device I use, which is what matters.
I like Google because it integrates nicely with a lot of other things. I don’t know much about Apple, so I can’t speak to it. I think most calendars do a lot, unless you are looking for something very specific. It’s just hard getting everything set up with a new one.

Apple if you use Apple devices
I use motion
It's really a matter of personal preference. I use Google calendar for the household. I MUST use outlook on a closed system that prohibits import or export for security (government system). Google Calendar to me is intuitive and flexible. But to each their own 😆
