I’m trying to learn SQL. I’ve completed SQLBolt but I’m looking for some more hands on learning to go from beginner to intermediate. Any advice?

Back in the day, I went through a bunch of things like this:
https://www.w3schools.com/sql/sql_exercises.asp

IMO, to get truly intermediate, you need projects at work or otherwise.

A lot of SQL at work is: "why is my result not tying out?" and troubleshooting

"Oh, the underlying data had an issue i need to account for by editing a clause"

or "Or John is asking for xyz, but when I have it to him, he said actually needed xyz2. I need to change ___."

Sql was easier to learn while trying to solve work problems. Do the work first and use gpt to help guide you but don’t just let it give you the answer.

The real challenge with SQL is knowing the schema of the database.

Otherwise it has 30 commands, not much more to it.

I’m trying to collect some supporting reviews/feedback from some of my stakeholders for an upcoming employee review cycle (we don’t do 360s). In the past these have been sent directly to manager but is there another way to collect them to present to manager/hr? Is it weird to ask them to send directly to me for me to present?

I am a proposal manager for federal consulting company. My base is low (112000) but I make up upto 50-70% of my base income with win bonuses. But I get the bonus only after the completion of one year of the base period of the contract. My question is -is this arrangement good or should I negotiate for higher base instead ?

Hoping to receive a referral to McKinsey or BCG for a generalist consulting or communications focused role. I have over 2 YOE at Deloitte and enjoy market research and strategic communications. Looking to hone in on that passion and make a switch to a more specialized role. Would be happy to send resume and chat to see if there’s a good fit. Thanks so much!

Hello! I am currently temping at my current job and have been asked to work a weekend conference (Thursday-Sunday). I also have a small puppy and I’ll need to pay for doggie daycare for her during those days. Is it too much to ask the company to reimburse me for the boarding/daycare costs?

Thanks!

Motivation is key when it comes to bettering yourself, your team and your brand. Without self-motivation, you'll be less likely to inspire your team to work together to better your business. Like a muscle, self-motivation becomes stronger the more you use it. Mastering the art of self-motivation will take some time to become a habit. However, with daily practice, you'll not only better yourself and your business, you'll inspire your team to lead more meaningful personal and professional lives.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

I have an informational interview with a Managing Director on Friday about a manager role. I currently serve in a client services role and do not have traditional consulting experience (billable hours, etc.). Additionally, while I’ve worked with McKinsey, Accenture, McKesson, and other teams on major projects, I don’t have experience putting together the strategy, more of a support function. Feeling a tad intimidated! Any tips would be so very appreciated!
