I’m trying to pivot from regulatory work to litigation, hopefully by landing a clerkship. What would you recommend emphasizing in a cover letter/resume if i haven’t yet gotten much substantive litigation experience outside of law school?

I think the most important thing for a clerkship is knowing the procedures for deciding dispositive motions inside out and backwards. I think some kind of pivot from regulatory procedure to civil procedure. Most judges don’t really need help with criminal cases

like

Emphasize your writing experience (e.g., law review, research assistant) and leadership roles. Plus it definitely helps having a few great recommendations. I'm pretty sure I got my first clerkship based, in part, on one of my professors who recommended me.

like

I also think communicating that you view the clerkship as service helps. A lot of judges view it that way. It also signals that you’ll work hard with an eye towards the benefit of a virtuous end versus a mere instrumental view of your time with judge.

When I interviewed they told me I was not required to recruit but now I’m required to upload 50 “My Relationships” every certain amount of months where other recruiters can technically go after my contacts and recruit them and also am expected to invite potential networking to events and through the beaker model. Is this required? I feel forced and I’ve only been here for less than a month and I’m not loving this approach.

I have a friend who was let go a few months into his first job after college (reason: the manager felt like he wasn't grasping the training content to the level that was expected). He's worried about if he should put the experience on his resume anyway, if he does will recruiters ask why he had such a short time at this place, and what will recruiters think if he explains he was let go. What are some things recruiters expect from candidates in this situation to continue considering them?
