I think there is basic misunderstanding on family separation. The idea of using a policy that separates kids from their parents to deter refugees and asylum seekers is just wrong. I understand we can’t open borders and all that, but it’s not the same conversation. I have no clue why we can’t criticize an abhorrent policy without being labeled as a proponent for open borders?
Yes there is an emergency. We lack the basic infrastructure to support LEGAL immigration at the border or ensure that drugs and/or criminals are properly vetted at port of entries. A wall is not going to solve it. Separating kids will satisfy the trump base, and I guess it helps them sleep better at night. I hope you never have to experience your kid taken away from you in a foreign land and then the government manages to deport the parents or worst case just lose the kid in the system.
It makes my blood boil that my government is committing what amounts to human rights abuses all in service of Trump’s mania and racist delusions about immigrants. This country was built on the backs of immigrants and our culture has been enriched by generations of immigrants and will continue to benefit from cultural diversity. The language of “our country is full” is the same language used to keep out the Jews of Europe and led to the Holocaust. These families, most of them believe in the promise of America and want a better future for their families. Trump and his little tool henchman Stephen Miller are racists. They should be brought up on charges of human rights abuse and child abuse.
You are that same person that having taken on 30 in a lifeboat that holds 25 wants to go back for more...at least we’ll all go down together. You don’t like taking in over a million LEGAL immigrants every year - change that law - stop waxing all humane on the illegal people who take advantage of our country. And EVP, why don’t YOU open up your extra bedroom and basement to house, feed and support a person that avoided entering the front door legally but instead snuck in and demanded to be taken care of

Because they are all entitled to a hearing by law. Before family separation they would just ankle bracelet the adults and release them into the interior, most would show up to hearings months later.
Family separation is just a way to be cruel. But asylum laws should probably change, and are cleary being abused.
Well, statistically speaking 45-46% of all grandchildren are trump supporters. Also most Pre-K Americans take a hard line on immigration, look it up.

A tax cut on the less well off - 92 percent of Americans taxes went down to say that the rich take from the poor is disingenuous to say the least - you can argue for a progressive tax system without recycling lies
50 percent of Americans pay no US income tax - I know they pay payroll tax but they get a heck of a rate of return unlike most of us who will be lucky to get a portion of SS we paid in unadjusted for inflation
This is the problem we need to have an honest discussion and we never can get beyond name calling
I would be much more in favor of higher taxes if the government actually spent them wisely - if it’s not waste in the military it’s the bloated pensions for certain, but not all, union government workers - politics makes me ill sometimes
Maybe if being a cop or teacher reflected actual market rates for the services they provide your concerns would have merit.
If you had to supply your own security, cops would make more money. You ignore the fact that it’s considered a ‘public good’ and held apart from market forces, artificial lowering salaries. Then you complain that people who do a necessary and dangerous job have political representation and a secure retirement.
Maybe you need to think more about the importance of these functions and the unique way they exist in our world as much as you think about tired talking points.
