In today's "everyone sucks" news, an acquaintance of mine who works at KPMG was told by her workplace to register for the vaccine by saying she worked in healthcare. She did and she got vaccinated.

To everyone considering trying to cut the line, think twice about the fact that you've decided that your peace of mind is worth more than someone else's life.

I’m for your acquaintance on this one. If she was offered, she should get it. I haven’t been offered but would absolutely get it because my infant daughter is high risk and unable to get the vaccine due to age. I want to get it to help protect HER.

While I’m not a patient facing healthcare professional, I do work on the administration side of it and in some states the administration IS part of the Tier 1b groups (like where I live).

My husband is also a non-patient facing healthcare worker in administration and he has gotten both of his doses. Contrary to what others are saying on here, it is TRUE that vaccines are sitting on shelves going to waste. I’ve had 3 people in 3 different health systems in my city confirm.

Getting shots in peoples arms is 💯 better than letting doses go to waste and I would absolutely jump at the chance to get it if offered.

Or let’s consider the possibility that OP doesn’t know his acquaintance full medical history and perhaps he/she has an underlying medical condition that qualified them to receive but instead of walking OP through their medical history his acquaintance just said that her employer told him/her to get it.

As far as I am concerned, everyone can go in front of me and I can wait until the back of the line. Healthy F, 50’s, no underlying conditions. Knock on wood, been fine so far and plan to stay that way.

Unpopular opinion: I’m totally fine cutting the line ahead of some 19 year old vapers who are getting top vaccine priority in many states.

It’s always Deloitte

The vaccines are sitting on shelves. If she was able to get one in her arm good on her

like

“Told by her workplace” I seriously doubt anyone who works in HR or leadership would say that...unless it was a peer saying something like that...

But I also tend to agree with D1, some of the people I know getting vaccinated now are the same people I saw out partying, vacations, and work “front line” jobs therefore got a vaccine

like

They are still studying if the vaccine prevents transmission. At this point, the studies only show the vaccines prevent severe and even mild symptoms. You can still have the virus and be asymptomatic and spread it to others who may not be vaccinated.

I’m really hoping the studies come out supporting reduced transmission rates as well as decrease in symptoms, but until that information is solid, it’s not a good idea to vaccinate “super spreaders” on the assumption that “at least they can’t spread it to others.” We just don’t know that it’s true.

I feel like the comments on this post have really confirmed my initial "everyone sucks" statement

Yup. Pretty sad

Lol OP what world are you in, they are throwing so many vaccines in the trash coz they can’t get people to take them! Get out of your idealistic world. Let people be!

like

Meanwhile, Los Angeles has had to close down five sites for people who have appointments because they have no more vaccines to give (until sometime next week.) a shame that we can’t get the shots where they are most wanted and highly needed.

It’s a life or death situation - it’s quixotic to think that people would follow the rules.

Do I blame that person? No. Would I feel bad if that person was fined $10,000? No.

like

What am I missing? Vaccine just protects you from COVID right? Doesn’t stop you from spreading which was the problem in the first place...

like

At this point, this is correct. They are still doing studies to see if they reduce transmission, but so far those results aren’t available yet.

I feel like a bunch of people are lying to get the vaccine before others simply so they can go on vacation and/or resume “normal” life. Agree that vaccines going to waste is bad, but there’s no guarantee the dose they got would have been wasted otherwise.

Great example of selfish entitled people with little regard for others.

And my 77-year old parents sit and wait...

Highly doubtful the company told her to do this. She’s probably got nice friends who look out for her. Half the country doesn’t want to take the vaccine. She’s doing us a favor by getting it and helping build up herd immunity. Also nothing illegal about it as the priority groups are mandates form cdc rather than laws set in place. Doubt anyone would try to get her on perjury either.

like

Illegal and immoral are different things?

like

I’m not sure who in their “workplace” told them to lie but I can guarantee it was not someone in a position of authority.

like

My city is telling everyone to register now and I know a lot of people who don’t fall under the current prioritized groups getting appointments almost immediately...is it wrong to accept these appointments? Also Ive heard of a lot of smaller cities that were were given a supply that can barely get people to sign up.

Should she have lied about her job? No. Does it help the overall goal of vaccinating the majority of the population as quickly as possible? Sure does. I personally have not known anyone who has wanted to get it in the prioritized groups, not be able to (but I do understand certain states are struggling more than others).

You can have mine

OP when I first read your post, I assumed your acquaintance was a healthcare consultant. Is that not true?
