In todays market we always judge people by age or by what they lack why doesn’t someone judge by the person character and give them a chance to show how amazing you are . As I look at my journey as a recruiter I went through many things but I hope someone’s look at me and says you got it I will give you the mentorship and chance you need

I agree. I think I culture has been driven mostly by mistrust. We have been trained in school, at work, and in our social networks to use specific characteristics when evaluating someone. There are very few experienced (i.e., older) hiring managers and executives who have the unique ability to use their intuition to make judgements instead of using the requirements set by our modern American society and continues need for battling your way to the top. Many people I see around me have great potential, are good people, but have lost confidence because of the continuous assumption about age, color, and gender.

Unfortunately not. I am currently a contractor since I was bridged to retirement this year. I am done after 40+ years. None of the companies I have consulted this year are hiring. In fact, they have all shrunk by about 20% since 2022 and have further plans for more shrinking because money is more important than their employees and their customers.

If the stock market were to tank, incl. all these ridiculous tech valuations, how do you guys think compensation packages will move in competitive fields such as IBD, consulting, big tech?

Based on current environments, I’ve two hypotheses:
1. Comp packages in competitive fields will continue strongly due to: a. less supply of top talent (great resignation), b. less willingness to work demanding jobs (push for wlb), and c. Rising living costs - inflation
2. Comp packages will get readjusted…

I have been in management for the past 8 years and part of large corporations. Hi everyone!

I wanted to know if you had any tips for me, things you wish you knew before, or things previous leaders did for/to you that you found admirable or stayed with you. I want to make sure I’m there for them and want to be a leader they will remember positively.

Thank you so much!!

I had a great review and a 5.5% raise and a great bonus at my company. But I also got a new Director and a peer manager of mine left the company, so I will be absorbing her team. In addition, my director said I will be receiving 'deep delegation' from them. I don't mind more work, but deep delegation is a new term I've never heard. What does that mean lol?

My remit quadrupled+ in a recent re-org with no increase in pay/promotion, my new director is new to the company and was zero help, and I was passed over for recent promotion during the comp cycle. The new director essentially began shutting me down any time I ask for clarity in my career progression. Now they have taken credit for the project I’ve been building over the past year+ without giving me props whatsoever to higher ups. What is the best plan of action here?

Our annual reviews are approaching & one of my direct reports has been with us for almost six years w/ little growth. My reco was to let him go & find a stronger, hungrier & more motivated designer at the same level. However, my boss instead wants us to promote him in hopes that will spark some motivation. I am not behind this decision & have voiced my multitude of concerns in promoting an employee who doesn't deserve it. HR is behind the decision! Thoughts on promoting an undeserving report?

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time
