Although Amazon has instituted a hiring freeze and layoffs are probably on their way, I went through the loop for a security engineer position at AWS. Before I attended the final interviews, Amazon placed the hiring freeze and called me to ask if I wanted to go ahead or cancel my application. I decided do go ahead Right now I'm waiting for their response and the position I applied to changed from "under consideration" to "no longer under consideration". Thoughts?
Deloitte audit Vs. Grant Thornton Tax. I have an offer from Grant Thornton and From Deloitte as an Intern this summer. Deloitte is the bigger name and pays a bit better but Grant Thronton has way nicer people and known to have a way better cultre and work environment. What should I do? Where should I go?Deloitte Grant Thornton

You can change your office very easily after you join. Don’t worry
It doesn’t matter. I had the same thing happen. It’s for admin purposes. You will be able to work in any office, and where you physically work will determine tax liability. Salary won’t differ between it’s all the NY metro area
Looks fishy, try insisting it gets rectified now.
I thought so, but they assured me it’s no problem. I even mentioned to them that partner and SM I interviewed with were both in NYC, and that I’m only going to the One Manhattan West site and I’m not commuting to Hoboken. Don’t want to repeatedly bring this up
Could be regulatory, I think some cities have temporarily enacted laws around re-hiring people laid off from covid before hiring new people
Can attest this is no big deal. The 2 offices are administrative same. You can go to either office of your choice.
staffing is the same also
If it can’t be rectified prior to start, could you at least get something in writing as evidence of the discussions and promises made?
In NYC, ey assigns people to Hoboken or Stamford a lot instead of NYC. There's functionally no difference, you can show up wherever and if you never look at where your technically assigned you would never know who's assigned where. If you ask to transfer I don't even know if it will go through because like I said, there's no difference
EY was given tax credits from the State of NJ for the Hoboken office which is dependent on retaining and hiring employees....
I read on another thread that this is a way EY is avoiding some laborious new employment law in NYC. Sorry I can’t recall the details. Maybe someone else can?
Yes, this probably seems the most likely reason.
As long as your Partner is aware and aligned don’t worry mate you’re sorted. Cheers
If you’re a woman, NJ STD lets you take 4 weeks before birth vs NY which is 2 week. Keep it if your a woman having kids in the future!
We got tax credits when we opened Hoboken but it’s based on hiring a certain number of employees there and we’re still short of what we committed to I think
I agree. This is the reason
You can be an Atlanta employee and still work from any office EY2. It’s about $$
I wouldn’t stress about it. I see it all the time.
Do you live in NJ? Just makes taxes easier for you but you can also go into any EY office to work (in normal times, don’t know if it’s the case now as I haven’t tried)
Where do you live? Thinking tax reasons?
They do it all the time and I wouldn’t worry too much. Sometimes it’s easier to process if you are based in Hoboken but you can go into the NYC office no problem.
I was mainly concerned about the teams. I did want to go to the office 1-2x per week to meet the team in person and didn’t want to be with a team located in NJ. Thanks everyone!
You can go where you want to, or where your situation eventually dictates
Shouldn’t matter but these things can be changed without worry. Hoboken is part of NYC “office” and currently even has the same office managing partner. Like others have said, you can badge in anywhere. Taxes are calc’d where you report on your timesheet throughout then year (incl your home city/state when you’re wfh)
I'd have to look at the official policy again, but I think there is a work-location requirement. OP can definitely ask the recruiter if it's a concern.
If it’s not in writing….it never happened. Just remember this as you start your EY “journey” and you’ll never get disappointed.
