It’s direct competitor, Microsoft teams, has like 10x the users

Then you have an old school, lazy SecOps team.
Ever since Microsoft has launched Teams Slack kinda lost its chance to break into an enterprise space, and they are not making that much of their free users.
Yes I already agreed the Chat app isn’t great.
Google does plenty of acquisitions, you probably just don’t hear/care about them, the most high profile one lately is Fitbit. Half my team is at Google due to acquisition.
Teams will kill it. It sucks, I get it, but it is free and covered by the MSFT EA.

Teams is such a garbage product. Consistency between desktop and mobile is just abysmal. Slack destroys it in that sense. From a customization and integration standpoint it also allows for WAY more. Slack is definitely growing, slowly but surely. My company uses it and most tech, new companies do as well. Divisions of large enterprises companies do too. Teams was called a Slack killer when it came out and it was just atrocious. Could barely get it to work.

I work at a 7000 -10000 person tech company. We use Slack. We used to be a heavy MS shop. They also have major adoption at IBM.
One thing you have to consider here is that as companies evolve to more forward thinking, agile, DevOps oriented organizations they will want tooling to support this. Teams does not do that. This isn’t just about human to human communication. It’s about non-human communication too. There is a whole hell lot of automation you can build around it to better streamline things. Sure, a lot of your company won’t care about this but the most critical part of your company does. Even those that don’t - wouldn’t it be more convenient to get your Service Now ticket updates in Slack ? And being able to respond to that right from the chat rather than having to log back into SN ? This is something you can do today, that we currently do. Who cares if Slack doesn’t do video or calling great. Most companies have Zoom to go along with it. Type in /Zoom in your chat whenever and you’ve started a Zoom call. And general large scale company communications is better handled in channels. I think Teams can do this now but I do not think anyone uses channel like communications the same way. 12 years ago seeing anyone with a Mac at a big Enterprise organization wasn’t very common. Everyone complained that they couldn’t get it to work with all these MS solutions and many other pieces of software. Then you saw developers/tech folk prefer the use of a Mac and that eventually made its way to others in the organization. Now you can pretty much get one anywhere you work.
Will this take over Teams ? Probably not. Is it the better solution. Yes. Does it have a lot of growth potential ? Yes. This is on Slack to sell. Right now I don’t think the value is fully understood.
Amazon just deployed slack to about 100000 employees. So, i wouldn’t say slack is dying.
I personally hate Microsoft teams and also it’s an enterprise play. Slack is used as another form of social media by some young people

Yup. I’m in a 50-person slack workspace with a bunch of guys from college. But we’re on the free plan and would never upgrade (nobody needs to see the records...)
I like teams.
Slack let’s you message and have calls. Teams does soooo much more.

Yeah, like what ? Freeze ? Not sync messages properly across devices ?
My company uses slack and i hate it with a passion... Teams is so much better.
